1st Annual Santa Monica Jubilee Jazz Festival
Hosted by Mt. Olive Lutheran Church

Mt. Olive is proud to host the 1st Annual Santa Monica Jubilee Jazz Festival. This day-long event will feature a variety of local bands playing straight-ahead, swing and Latin Jazz. The festival will also feature a “Swing Tea”, where English tea and scones will be served and concert-goers will have the opportunity to dance to swing-style jazz. Food trucks will be stationed in the parking lot in between evening acts.

Suggested Donation:
$30 for Adults   /   $20 for Students w/ID   /   $10 for Children 12 and Under

The Gonzalo Bergaro Quartet
The all-acoustic Gonzalo Bergara Quartet plays a modern variant of 1930s Django Reinhardt-inspired gypsy jazz. Gonzalo Bergaro on lead guitar, Leah Zeger on violin, Jeffrey Radaich on Rhythm Guitar and Brian Netzley on upright bass.

The Janice Anderson Quintet
The Janice Anderson Quartet are a well-known staple at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, often performing at our monthly Jazz Vespers concerts. The quartet features Janice Anderson on vocals, Chris Dawson on piano, David Sills on saxophone, Roger Shew on bass and Sinclair Lott on drums.

Swing Tea with The Mark Tortorici Quintet
The Swing Tea will allow concert-goers over an hour to dance to swing-style jazz . English tea and scones will be served. Performing during this time will be The Mark Tortorici Quintet featuring Mark Tortorici on vocals and harmonicas, Chris Dawson on piano, Paul Lines on drums, Freddie Johnson on bass and Dan Sawyer on guitar and saxophone.

Bill Cunliffe with Imaginación
Best known for his innovative and swinging compositions, the Grammy award winning Bill Cunliffe will perform alongside his Latin band Imaginación.

The Christian Jacob Trio
With Christian Jacob on piano, Kevin Axt on bass and Ray Brinker on drums.

Susie Hansen Latin Band
Susie Hansen and her Latin band will close the festival with their festive take on swinging salsa jazz.Susie Hansen on vocals and violin, Joe Rotundi Jr. on piano, John Belzaguy on bass, Tony Shogren on drums, Kasper Abbo on vocals and guitar and Daniel Castillo on vocals and congas.

Evren Edler Quintet

The Evren Edler Quintet (www.evrenedler.com) along with vocalist Carrah Flahive will be performing at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church (www.mtolivelutheranchurch.org) on Sunday, May 12th at 5pm for the church's monthly Jazz Vespers concert. The event features musicians performing in the ancient style of evening vespers and is interspersed with motivational prayers that even the non-religious will enjoy.

The Evren Edler Quintet has been playing live and recording in Los Angeles for almost a decade, mainly playing original tunes written by Evren and Piano player and film composer; Emir Isilay along with a few arrangements of Jazz or Brazilian standards. This quintet has a mixture of Brazilian Music and rhythms like Samba, Baiao, Partido Alto and some Jazz as well as Turkish Music influences. Originally from Istanbul, Turkey, Evren Edler has recorded & toured with many artists, bands and engineers, such as: Grammy award winner Ruslan Sirota, Francis Buckley, Evren Goknar, Emmy award winner Jacob Young, Echocell, Adam Marcello (Katy Perry), Mark Schulman (Pink), Paul Kaiser (Stanfour), Bryan Baker (Steps Ahead), Joey Heredia, Frank Gambale, Dennis Moody, Brandon Fields, Chinese Superstar Wei Wei and more. He continues to compose music for prime time TV shows on NBC, ABC & KCAL9 as well as scored original music for several movies.

Jazz Vespers is a monthly event at Mt. Olive that features local Los Angeles musicians of prominence. The acoustics in the Mt. Olive sanctuary are hauntingly beautiful and each month hundreds of Santa Monica residents line up for the freewill concerts that continue to gain notoriety and praise. The event is freewill offering and free parking and childcare are also available.

Mt.Olive Lutheran welcomes Kathleen Grace featuring Antony Wilson on Guitar; Erik Kertes on Bass; and David Steele on Guitar.

Jazz vocalist Kathleen Grace has made a name for herself on the national scene as a lyrical vocalist with a desire to push boundaries. She has performed at festivals in the U.S., Europe and South America including the Montreux Jazz Festival and the SXSW Music Festival. A product of the fertile music scene in Los Angeles, Grace borrows from several genres in her writing and arranging, combining virtuosic jazz with the textures of indie folk/rock. The result is music played at the highest level and enhanced by eclectic instrumentation and vocal harmonies.

Recognized internationally as the finest male jazz singer of the Philippines, Mon David, is the winner of the 2006 London International Jazz Competition for Vocalists. A product of the University of the Philippines College of Music, Mon has seven albums to his credit, all of which received unprecedented critical acclaim and a plethora of awards.
